Design Concept – House of the Future, Dubai – Realized 2025

Set within Dubai’s arid climate conditions, this design redefines the future of residential living spaces through a fusion of vernacular architectural solutions and contemporary spatial organization. The house employs multi-directional ventilated brick screens (brise-soleil) combined with high heat-resistant materials to minimize solar radiation absorption, while ensuring air circulation and natural light access.

At the project’s core lies a vertical water collection shaft, intersecting with diagonal wind-trap corridors, creating a passive micro-climate regulation system inspired by traditional desert architecture.

A central courtyard integrates a water feature and garden, which not only cools surrounding spaces but also becomes the “emotional heart” of the house—blurring the boundary between interior and exterior.

The house’s functional program includes:

  • Multi-functional family living areas
  • Co-working space
  • Prayer room

… reflecting a holistic lifestyle, balancing work, mental wellness, and spiritual life.

The house honors local culture and climate-adaptive design thinking, inheriting the spirit of Middle Eastern architectural heritage while opening a new vision for sustainable, self-regulating homes.

The material palette prioritizes local, heat-resistant finishes such as:

  • Clay mortar
  • Porous/breathable concrete

… ensuring long-term durability and integration with the desert context.

The double-layer facade combined with brise-soleil sun-shading louvers not only reduces heat absorption but also echoes the geometric language of mashrabiya – a distinctive Middle Eastern architectural element.

In terms of functional organization, the house integrates:

  • Co-working space
  • Community living spaces
  • Contemplative/spiritual spaces
  • Garden cultivation areas

… emphasizing a future lifestyle rooted in flexibility, wellness, and cultural identity.

This is not merely a dwelling, but a self-sustaining ecosystem—a prototype for sustainable urban living in the face of extreme climate conditions.
